Areas I can help with

  • If you feel like you might be paying unnecessary tax because you’re unsure of all the rules around allowable expenses, I can help you to apply HMRC guidance to your business so that you can achieve maximal deductions with the peace of mind that your accounts will hold up to HMRC scrutiny.

  • If you think you might be paying too much tax because you’re unsure of how to claim capital allowances then I can help you get the most value from cars, musical instruments, laptops or other items bringing your business lasting benefits.

  • If you want to have full entitlement to benefits such as your state pension, I can help you understand how the classes of National Insurance interact to reach your required years of full contributions in the most cost-efficient way.

  • If you’re performing in multiple countries, I can help you navigate double taxation agreements, determine your residency, file A1 forms to avoid unnecessary social security costs and ensure you don’t pay more tax than you need to on income from abroad.

  • If you’re unsure of the best way to structure your performing business, I can help you think through the pros and cons of setting up as a sole trader, partnership or a limited company, of whether VAT registration is worthwhile and how best to pay other performers, including consideration of their employment status.

  • If you’re self-employed and looking to take out a mortgage, I can provide a certificate of income which your bank may require.

  • If you have income from rental property, which may include letting a room in your own home, I can help you to prepare your accounts and make the most of the allowable deductions available.

  • Making a loss can be upsetting but there’s a silver lining if you utilise your loss to full effect for tax purposes. I can help you understand how best to use losses to reduce your tax liability.

  • If you need help in declaring your capital gains, whether for a musical instrument you’ve sold or residential property, I can help you to ensure you are claiming all the reliefs available to you to minimise your tax liability

  • This is not an exhaustive list, so please get in touch if you want help with any other queries.

Whilst I specialise in performers and musicians, I do have clients from other walks of life, from solicitors to designers, so do get in touch, even if performance is not your forte.
